James A. Dilling has been with the Mayo Clinic since 1981 and currently provides administrative leadership to the enterprise quality and value initiatives.  This role includes accountability for Mayo’s Value Strategy and insuring that Mayo maintains its prominence as both a trusted and affordable healthcare organization.

He has served in a variety of leadership roles during his 29 years at Mayo including direct responsibility for clinical practices including: Radiology, the Department of Surgery and Ophthalmology.  Additionally, he led the effort to establish a multidisciplinary Transplant Center at Mayo. 

As a member of numerous Board committees, he has led or been actively engaged in efforts to form a single high value Mayo Clinic practice across five states, revamp the employee healthcare delivery and benefits model, consolidate operations of the Rochester hospitals and clinic and to implement the electronic medical record and imaging systems.

Mr. Dilling graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering.  He is a Fellow in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and an MGMA Certified Medical Practice Executive.
